We arrived early on Saturday morning for the Labor Day weekend. The park was offering a Labor day discount rate of $25/night, as this is off season for them. Much of the campground was empty, and we could really see how well maintained the facilities were. Each space was a level concrete pad, with colored gravel around that. Our site had a small orange tree, but the oranges were still green, and needed a few more months to be ripe for the picking. A free continental breakfast was offered, but left a lot to be desired. The breakfast consisted of powdered orange juice, coffee, and very small and very dry muffins. (I feel bad saying that as I believe they were homemade). The rest of the park was really nice, we have 2 dogs, and there is a really nice dog park to let them run off leash. There were thunderstorms that night, and the next day the dog park was under at least a foot of water. The restrooms were clean, and the people at the front desk were friendly and helpful. We had WiFi service at our site. The first hour per day is free, after that you must pay a daily fee. Because it is not free WiFi, I had to deduct some on the rating.

I've been to Rivernook campground 3 times now. We found it by driving to Kernville, and looking at Camp James which is right next door. Coming from Los Angeles, we cannot leave until after work on Fridays. Camp James said they could not allow late arrivals, but we could come on Saturday. Rivernook said if we make it up there by 10:00 PM, they could accommodate, so we did, and have been camping there ever since. Rivernook is a campground with pea gravel roads, very clean restrooms and some of beautiful scenery. We prefer camping on the river's edge. However one of my guests said they had a hard time sleeping because of the noise from the river - I fell asleep like a baby. The noise from the river did drown out a party that was taking place in the spot right next to us. Later that evening the management asked the people to turn off their music and quiet down. One other note, the sites on the river do not have sewer hook-ups. If you need sewer hook-ups there are plenty of spots throughout the campground that have sewer and are right by the trout creeks that flow through the campground. There are also spots with no water near them if you have concerns about your toddlers. If you need cable TV note there is a $200 deposit on a converter box. You will get that deposit back once the box has been returned. The management has told us how frustrated they are about having to do that, but the box is mandated by the local cable company. My suggestion is to get out of the RV, and watch all of the people rafting on the river - there are no commercials this way.

Great News! They are gradually fixing up this campground. The owners are the Helicopter Tour company, and they seem to own a lot in the area. I was told they just took it over a month ago, and hired new people to run this camp. Now don't get me wrong this is by far not a perfect campground, the showers are $1.75 for 8 minutes, and in the men's showers, the wires were covered in electrical tape. They were working on the first of three bathrooms when I was there, and I saw areas where they had done repairs to the sewer system. The power boxes still need repair, the water system worked fine. The odd thing is there seems to be 4 sewer connections per site. I walked around the camp and there was no horse droppings anywhere. The dumpster was overflowing, but just as I noticed that, the truck came to empty it. One other thing that I noticed was a worker cleaning up sites. The sites are not level as of yet, but as the host at the counter stated, the owner realizes that this is a great opportunity, and is gradually working to get everything working. I will tell you after reading the reviews I was very concerned that this was going to be terrible. It was nice to have full connections, and frankly we spent the majority of our time at the Grand Canyon. I probably wouldn't go camping here just to get away, but I would recommend camping here if you want to be close to the Grand Canyon, and couldn't get into Trailer Village.

Very nice kept little park. We drove from Los Angeles to this campground on our way to Yellowstone. It was a very pleasant stay overnight, and I'd highly recommend it it is very clean, new gravel sites, hook-ups are newer, and the pull through site allowed me to keep my towed vehicle attached to the motorhome.

This campground came highly recommended by many friends. Reading reviews I see comments about the sites not being level - ours was not level either, but it wasn't bad. We camped deep in the campground, in the woods. I'm glad we did, as we had hail both nights we were there. They had a great deal on an all-you-can eat pancake breakfast, and frankly it was a darn good deal, and very tasty too. I could never get my computer to recognize the WIFI, however I did pick it up on my iPhone, so maybe it was an issue with my computer. The staff was very friendly, and the proximity to Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore were ideal. I would camp here again. I saw many other less expensive campgrounds near by, however they were all on busy roads. I never heard any traffic from the busy road it was just too far from our site. This is a huge campground, so I'd recommend looking up the campground map online to see what facilities you would prefer to be near.

We arrived after hours, our site information was taped to the door, as they told us it would. When we pulled in, someone from the park saw us and lead us directly to our site the told us we could pay in the morning when they reopened. The sites are very well maintained with new gravel - standard color gravel for the RV and tow vehicle, and a red gravel for the picnic table and patio area. All the electrical, sewer, and water connections were new as well. The pool was closed for the season, which surprised me however the "adult" jacuzzi and the hot tub were open for use. If camping here I'd suggest getting a site at the back of the campground to avoid traffic noise from the highway - although even that was not bad.

The park is in a great location for many activities throughout the valley. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The security guard guided us into a temporary spot because we arrived after 10:00 PM. The reason I did not give the park a higher rating is because the park is old and could use some TLC. The Club Room is a double wide mobile home with some very vintage furniture. The ceiling in the Club Room had some water damage. The RV spots were huge. We pulled right through without unhooking our towed vehicle. One other thing to be very aware of is the extremely high water pressure. There is a sign in the office that states they are not responsible for damage due to high water pressure. One of my neighbors who had been staying there a while came up to me to warn me about the high water pressure as well.

Going to Las Vegas in the RV was something that I've always wanted to do. The KOA at Circus Circus is not in a deeply wooded lot, it is large asphalt lot with full hook-ups. Now that being said, I knew it going in, I just wanted to be near the strip, and this was the closest place. I was not let down. Upon arriving I saw security at the gates, and there were staff all over the place. They were so friendly there, that one of the staff actually led us to our site, then helped me line up my RV for hook-ups (not that I couldn't have done it myself). Another thing to remember is that it is asphalt, and because of this, on the very hot days, you need to be concerned about your pets paws to avoid burning them. Check-out is 11 AM, so I called over to Bally's spoke with Security and told them I wanted to gamble there. They directed me to a large lot that would accomodate me for free- no overnight camping though). Overall, it was an enjoyable experience at this KOA.

The sites are excellent, panning for gold was fun and included in the price - yes, I found a few flakes of gold. The petting zoo hours are very limited from 8 to 10 AM. The pool was very nice, in fact all of the facilities were clean and in excellent condition. Each hook up area had its own small light on it to help you hook up in a late arrival. The crickets were wonderful to listen to at night! There is an actual gold mine on site - just be certain to take a flashlight as it is pitch black in there - also you need to crouch over. One other thing that I really appreciated was they had a free marshmallow roast at the main pavilion, They even drove a tractor around with a trailer (hay wagon ride) and took people to the roast!. Do they go out of their way- yes they do! I hope to return here very soon. Oh yes, the note about the road being tough for big rigs - it's true. I pulled a car behind my motorhome, and there were times I was nervous, but DO follow the campground directions from Los Angeles, they were spot on, I took both ways here (drove it on the second day).

We went to Emma Wood State Beach this past weekend - without reservations. Although the sites were full, they offered us a spot in their "Group Camp" area. The area was nice and clean, although we did have to cross railroad tracks to reach the beach. Once at the beach we realized that there was not much of a sand area and a straight drop off of 6 feet at the end of the trail, a little further to the south we found an acceptable place to climb down some rocks to the beach. My rating reflects the Group Camp area, the Ocean front sites are beautiful, and a pleasure to camp at. The Group camp area is ok for a night.

As others have said, Dry camping at it's best. The Ocean mist was cool and during high tide the ocean was slightly splashing over the wall. I was in spot 14, but would recommend spots 20 through 127 for the best views of the ocean. Some people were shooting off fire works over the water. The best part of the experience here is the entire passenger side of the RV faces the ocean so literally it is right out your front door. The train did wake us up once, but it is the freight train that makes more noise than the passenger trains. Bike ride to town is about 5 miles.
